Mr. Dan Odero holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology and a master’s degree specializing in hydrogeology.
He has over 30 years of experience in applied geoscience, spanning practice in the water sector, environmental and engineering geology. As a water expert, he has worked extensively in groundwater exploration, management and regulation in East and Central Africa.
Among his achievements are the confirmation of the Lotikipi Aquifer, where he did ground truthing surveys to establish exploratory drilling points that led to the discovery of the aquifer, following studies by Radar Technologies International. He was instrumental in the delineation and re-classification of Kenya’s aquifers and developed the National Aquifer Map, National Groundwater Potential Assessment that provides annual renewable recharge estimates by catchment and the National Groundwater Monitoring Network.
Geol. Odero brought to the fore the application of geophysics in environmental problem solving in the country, including oil spill management, solid waste disposal, noise and vibration. His dedication to applied geoscience has seen him being involved in many infrastructure projects, bringing in engineering geological expertise into road, rail, airport, dam, tunnelling, wind, solar and hydroelectric design and supervision projects.

Mr. Masachi is the Senior Principal Superintending Geologist, currently working under the Office of The Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service of Kenya. A few months after deployment to the new office, he represented Kenya at the 29th Colloquium of Africa Geology (CAG29) in Namibia, where he also successfully bid for Kenya to host the next CAG30 Conference that is therefore set to be held in Nairobi in the year 2025.
He held the immediate position as the Acting Director, Directorate of Geological Survey and Geo-Information Management in the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs.
During his tenure as Director of Geological Survey and Geo-information Management, he implemented several transformations including equipping the Madini Laboratory with modern equipment including AAS and restoring ICP-MS analyzer to working conditions. Geol. Masachi initiated twelve project proposals of which some are currently running, and others are yet to be implemented. During his stint as Acting Director, Mineral Promotion and Value Addition, Geol. Masachi zealously defended the construction of the Voi Gemstone Centre and subsequently sourced for budget to increase Gemstone Dealers’ Booths and supply the state-of-art gemstone identification, cutting and polishing equipment. The Voi Gemstone Centre was officially opened by H.E. the President in October 2023.
Other areas of interest include the assessment of Emuhaya granites (Masachi & Mwadime,2011), for use in mass production of Granite Slabs and counter tops. The implementation of a scoping study in Kakamega and Vihiga Counties (Masachi et al, 2025) on Artisanal Gold production levels informed the Presidential directive to establish a Gold Refinery in Kakamega County. He has also worked on Iron Ore potential in Kakdhim Homa Bay, Marimanti iron Ore Prospect, Myanga gold anomaly, as well as Assessment of Kisii soapstone in Sameta Area.
Mr. Masachi presented a Paper on “Energy Processes within the Kenyan Rift System) at a Conference held in Accra, Ghana in February 2023.
